The Cook in The Nook
About This Spot
Stepping into The Cook in The Nook feels like entering a quietly cherished corner of Cosby, where time slows just enough for a comforting breakfast or a calm midday pause. This little café and family restaurant carries a warm, unhurried vibe; it welcomes both familiar faces and curious newcomers with an inviting hush that hums beneath gentle chatter and the soft clink of coffee cups. Here, the pace is measured, relaxed — a perfect backdrop to moments held in good company or solitary ease.
The heart of the experience is how the kitchen embraces mornings and afternoons with thoughtful care. You might find yourself drawn to the rich aroma of freshly brewed black coffee or a cappuccino, while the menu quietly celebrates classics and new ideas alike. Whether savoring a full English breakfast, exploring a chickpea hash gently laid over sourdough, or indulging in a stack of buttermilk pancakes drizzled with maple syrup, each bite feels like a small discovery tailored to the season, the moment, the mood.
Surrounding this offer is a genuine sense of place — the sort of spot where the staff’s warmth shapes your visit as much as the food. Local patrons and visitors note the kindness and attentiveness that bring the space to life without fuss, nurturing a calm hospitality that suits the village’s rhythm. The presence of treats for four-legged friends only deepens the feeling that everyone is considered and welcomed here.
From early breakfast through leisurely brunch and light lunch, The Cook in The Nook strikes a balance between familiarity and freshness. The menu’s foundation of hearty favorites and softer, seasonal twists invites a choice between tried-and-true comfort and a gentle invitation to try something different — all served with a quiet confidence that honors the craft of simple, honest food.
In the heart of Leicester’s Cosby village, this nook is more than a coffee shop or family restaurant. It is a place where rhythm slows, tastes linger, and a sense of belonging feels effortless — a modest gem tucked away for those who find joy in the warmth of a well-made meal and the welcome of a kind smile.

I have just had the pleasure of meeting the new owner of The Cook in the book, Max. Met a friend for breakfast and I can’t recommend it enough. Delicious food & a nice atmosphere. The waitresses were friendly and made us feel they were happy for us to be there. Always good-to support local businesses especially when local people own them. Don’t miss out on this little gem in the heart of our wonderful village. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you x

We went in for brunch before going to watch a show. Food was incredibly tasty, atmosphere was calm and relaxing, staff are friendly and accommodating. A really good selection of YUMMY cakes and sweet treats too. Thank you Max and your lovely team!

A lovely village cafe which is so much more. The solid, high-quality menu is always accompanied by an offering of specials as well as a range of cakes, meaning that you always have the opportunity to have either a tried and tested favourite or something new. The food is always cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. Favourites have to include the Benny 22, mushrooms and stilton, and, of course, the cinnamon buns.

We recently moved to the village and this little gem is on our doorstep!!! Breakfast or lunch there is always something amazing on the menu!!! The staff are so friendly and helpful!! I wanted to treat the wife to a gingerbread latte ( her fav festive ) but the Christmas menu was up and we had lunch. I had the festive ciabata and the wife had a sourdough toasties with caramelised onion and cheese. They were absolutely AMAZING!!! WHAT A JOY TO HAVE ON THE DOORSTEP!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
